Matthew J Grcic
I am an advocate for the environment and the people whose voices are often left unheard. I use my photography as an aid in telling stories to inspire change. One of my first films, “Discovering the Truth with Tanner DeMita” toured the county in several film festivals and won several awards, including a Crystal Pillar from the NATAS Chicago Midwest Chapter.
After receiving my Master of Communication in Digital Media and Storytelling from Loyola University Chicago in 2015, I made a film for Southern Exposure, where I learned about many of the environmental crises throughout the state of Alabama. I also found community and fell in love with the gorgeous geography of the beautiful state. I am now an Emmy nominated Documentary Filmmaker working at Alabama Public Television.
I now live an work in Birmingham, Alabama with my new family. I continue to work with Southern Exposure as an advocate every year. The prospect of being able to tell more stories in order to preserve the vulnerable environment of world drives me to keep going every day.
